The answer is a straight "yes"

Having originated long ago, where we can't even trace the timeline , yoga as a subject is a ocean by itself. To understand this divine subject one life isn't enough. Yoga is not just the bodily exercise. This brings me to the topic "The myths about Yoga." Before even diving deep into the career aspect of yoga let us understand what are the common misconceptions about the same.

Yoga belongs to one religion -no

yoga is only about bodily postures -no

you can learn yoga through books -no

you should be flexible-no

yoga is only for young people - no

it is time consuming - no

yoga means total lifestyle change - no

yoga is not for asthmatics -no

yoga can be taught by anybody -no

Let's now delve into who can teach yoga?

ree

The profession of teaching yoga is quite open. That means you can call yourself a yoga trainer, irrespective of your education and experience. There aren't any legal requirements for teaching yoga . However, one needs to train and understand his/her body, enrich mind with enormous amount of philosophical knowledge and of course work towards certifications.

To maintain standards few countries have come up with regulated alliances like International yoga alliance and so on. We are very fortunate as Indians, with the current government giving utmost priority to yoga and health , has introduced various levels of holistic study through yoga certification board.

All an aspiring yoga instructor needs to do is practice under a right Guru , understand your body, work on your weaknesses, improve on your strengths, pick up the details of a particular activity or asana along with good communication skills. Once you feel you are ready enroll for the basic 200hr teacher training course. This course will help you with the following:

⦁ yoga is not just about asanas

⦁ you will get introduced to multi-style approach

⦁ it will definitely build confidence with amount of knowledge you gain

⦁ you will understand the techniques, teaching methodology, anatomy, philosophy (study of ancient texts.)

⦁ this will also certify you as a teacher, of course with a small exam being conducted

⦁ you will get to explore a different place

⦁ you will get to meet new people and understand group dynamics, time management, business aspects and student teacher relationship

⦁ you will be groomed into a different human being as I can say the standards of teacher training curriculum across the world is very well maintained.

All the certifications and yoga alliances are meant to ensure that you meet certain standards, which theoretically should promise that you will be a good yoga trainer. But just as there are bad professionals, even after years of studying, these credentials do not really define your quality as a teacher. I am sure everyone would agree. Practice and consistency are the ways to success. Keep in mind that many of the most famous and most influential teachers aren't connected to any yoga association and still recognized by their students for the immense amount of dedication, knowledge and experience they bring to their classes.
